University of Crete – VizTouch3D User Training

The University of Crete has officially entered a new era of forensic science with the successful deployment of the VizTouch3D Forensic Dissection Table, the first installation of its kind in Europe. This landmark achievement, announced by the Department of Forensic Medicine, Anthropology & Imaging, represents a significant leap forward in forensic innovation across the continent. Developed by Virtual Autopsy Solutions, the table provides a cutting-edge platform for non-invasive post-mortem imaging and virtual dissection. This milestone was made possible through the visionary leadership of Associate Professor Elena Kranioti and the support of BIOSENSE, our trusted partners in Greece, setting a new benchmark for forensic and anthropological education and research in the European academic landscape.

On August 27-28, 2025, a specialised user training and certification program was successfully conducted to ensure the expert operation of this advanced technology. The training was led by Dr Hemanth Naik, Chief Medical Officer of Virtual Autopsy Global Solutions, and coordinated by CEO Ash Govind. A distinguished group of professionals from the University of Crete successfully completed the training and certification. This intensive session equipped the faculty with the skills necessary to integrate the VizTouch3D system into the university’s high-level forensic curriculum.

The VizTouch3D table features a high-resolution 4K multi-touch display that allows educators, students and researchers to explore digitised human cadavers and anatomy, and analyse complex forensic scenarios with unprecedented detail. This technology will be a cornerstone of the University of Crete’s Postgraduate Programme in Forensic Medicine, Anthropology and Imaging, as well as its undergraduate courses and resident training. By facilitating hands-on, non-invasive virtual autopsies, the table offers a unique educational experience that prepares the next generation of forensic experts for the digital future of the field. This integration reinforces the University of Crete’s position as a premier centre for forensic education and a leader in adopting state-of-the-art medical technology.
